वैशंपायन उवाच शूरो नाम यदुश्रेष्ठो वसुदेवपिताभवत् तस्य कन्या पृथा नाम रूपेणासदृशी भुवि
Vaiśampāyana said: The chief of the Yadu-s was named Śūra and he was Vāsudeva's father. His daughter was named Pṛthā and her beauty was matchless on earth.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: यदुओं के मुखिया का नाम शूर था और वह वासुदेव के पिता थे। उनकी पुत्री का नाम पृथा था और उसकी सुंदरता पृथ्वी पर अद्वितीय थी।
Earlier, that valorous one had promised his first-born child to his father's sister's son, because this valorous one had no children.
पहले उस वीर ने अपने पहले जन्मे बच्चे को अपने पिता की बहन के बेटे को देने का वादा किया था, क्योंकि उस वीर के कोई संतान नहीं थी।
The first-born happened to be a daughter. To do a favour and an act of friendship to his friend, he gave her to the great-souled Kuntibhoja.
पहली संतान बेटी हुई। अपने मित्र पर उपकार करने और मित्रता का कार्य करने के लिए, उसने उसे महान आत्मा कुन्तिभोज को दे दिया।
In her father's house, she was appointed to honour the gods and guests. One day, she happened to tend to the Brāhmaṇa who was rigid in his vows and was fearsome.
अपने पिता के घर में, उसे देवताओं और मेहमानों का सम्मान करने के लिए नियुक्त किया गया था। एक दिन, वह उस ब्राह्मण के पास गई जो अपनी प्रतिज्ञाओं में कठोर था और डरावना था।
He who was known as Durvāsa was learned in the secret mysteries of dharma. Attending to his needs in every way, she pleased the self-controlled one.
वह दुर्वासा के नाम से जाने जाते थे और धर्म के गूढ़ रहस्यों के ज्ञाता थे। उसने हर तरह से उसकी जरूरतों को पूरा करते हुए संयमी को प्रसन्न किया।

तस्यै स प्रददौ मन्त्रमापद्धर्मान्ववेक्षया अभिचाराभिसंयुक्तमब्रवीच्चैव तां मुनिः
Through his foresight, he knew that she would face the dharma that is indicated for times of distress and need magic. The sage gave her a mantra and said,
अपनी दूरदर्शिता के माध्यम से, वह जानता था कि वह उस धर्म का सामना करेगी जो संकट के समय के लिए संकेत दिया गया है और जादू की आवश्यकता है। ऋषि ने उसे एक मंत्र दिया और कहा,
"Whichever gods you summon through the use of this mantra, will grant you sons through their grace."

Having been told this by the Brāhmaṇa, she was curious. Though still a virgin, the illustrious one summoned the god Arka.
ब्राह्मण द्वारा यह बताए जाने पर, वह उत्सुक हो गई। हालाँकि वह अभी भी कुंवारी थी, उस प्रतिष्ठित महिला ने भगवान अर्क को बुलाया।
She immediately saw the sun, who makes the worlds come alive. On seeing that wonderful sight, the one with the unblemished form was astounded.

Tapana, who spreads light, placed an embryo in her womb. Through him, she gave birth to a warrior who was supreme among those who knew the use of all weapons. He was born with natural armour, blessed with good fortune and handsome like a son of the gods.
प्रकाश फैलाने वाली तपन ने उसके गर्भ में एक भ्रूण रख दिया। उसके माध्यम से, उसने एक ऐसे योद्धा को जन्म दिया जो सभी हथियारों का उपयोग जानने वालों में सर्वोच्च था। वह प्राकृतिक कवच के साथ पैदा हुआ था, सौभाग्यशाली था और देवताओं के पुत्र की तरह सुंदर था।
His natural armour and earrings lit up his face. This son was known in all the worlds as Karṇa.
उसके प्राकृतिक कवच और बालियों से उसका चेहरा चमक उठा। यह पुत्र समस्त लोकों में कर्ण के नाम से विख्यात हुआ।

प्रादाच्च तस्याः कन्यात्वं पुनः स परमद्युतिः दत्त्वा च ददतां श्रेष्ठो दिवमाचक्रमे ततः
After giving her, the supremely radiant one and the best among those who give, Tapana, restored her virginity and returned to heaven.
उसे देने के बाद, परम तेजस्वी और दान देने वालों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ, तपना ने अपना कौमार्य बहाल कर लिया और स्वर्ग लौट गई।
So as to hide her misconduct and frightened of her relatives, Kuntī hurled the son, who bore all the auspicious marks, into the water.
कुन्ती ने अपने कुकर्मों को छिपाने के लिए तथा अपने सम्बन्धियों से भयभीत होकर सभी शुभ चिन्हों से युक्त पुत्र को जल में बहा दिया।
Rādhā's illustrious husband, who was the son of a sūta, saved the child, and he and his wife brought him up as their son.
राधा के यशस्वी पति, जो सूत के पुत्र थे, ने बच्चे को बचाया और उन्होंने तथा उनकी पत्नी ने उसे अपने पुत्र के रूप में पाला।
They gave the child a name. Since he was born with riches, he was given the name of Vasuṣeṇa.
उन्होंने बच्चे को एक नाम दिया. चूंकि उनका जन्म धन के साथ हुआ था, इसलिए उन्हें वसुषेण नाम दिया गया था।

स वर्धमानो बलवान्सर्वास्त्रेषूद्यतोऽभवत् आ पृष्ठतापादादित्यमुपतस्थे स वीर्यवान्
He grew up to be powerful, skilled in the use of all weapons. The valorous one worshipped the sun until his back was burnt.
वह बड़ा होकर शक्तिशाली और सभी हथियारों के प्रयोग में कुशल हो गया। वह वीर तब तक सूर्य की पूजा करता रहा जब तक उसकी पीठ जल न गयी।
During that time of worship and meditation, there was nothing that the brave, truthful and great-souled one would not give to Brāhmana-s.
पूजा और ध्यान के उस समय में, ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं था जो बहादुर, सच्चा और महान आत्मा व्यक्ति ब्राह्मणों को नहीं देता था।
Indra, who looks after the welfare of all creatures, came in the form of a Brāhmaṇa begging for alms and asked for the radiant natural armour and earrings.
इंद्र, जो सभी प्राणियों के कल्याण की देखभाल करते हैं, एक ब्राह्मण के रूप में भिक्षा मांगने आए और उज्ज्वल प्राकृतिक कवच और बालियां मांगीं।
Without a thought, and with blood streaming, Karṇa cut off the natural armour and the earrings and offered them with joined hands.
बिना सोचे-समझे और खून की धारा बहाते हुए कर्ण ने प्राकृतिक कवच और कुंडल काट दिए और हाथ जोड़कर उन्हें अर्पित कर दिया।
The amazed Śākra gave him a śakti and said, "Whoever you wish to kill among the gods, the āsura-s, humans, gāndharva-s, uragā-s and rākṣasa-s with this weapon, will certainly be killed."
आश्चर्यचकित शक्र ने उन्हें एक शक्ति दी और कहा, "देवताओं, असुरों, मनुष्यों, गंधर्वों, उरगों और राक्षसों में से जिसे भी तुम इस हथियार से मारना चाहते हो, वह निश्चित रूप से मारा जाएगा।"

पुरा नाम तु तस्यासीद्वसुषेण इति श्रुतम् ततो वैकर्तनः कर्णः कर्मणा तेन सोऽभवत्
Earlier, he was known by the name of Vasuṣeṇa. But after this deed, he became known by the name of Vaikartaṇa Karṇa.
पहले उन्हें वसुषेण के नाम से जाना जाता था। लेकिन इस कार्य के बाद वह वैकर्तन कर्ण के नाम से जाना जाने लगा।
